If I use a phone card on a cell phone, do I have to pay for airtime minutes on the phone?

Hi! I'm traveling overseas and I would like to use my current cell phone with cheap calling cards that will lower the cost of calling locally and to the US. My question is, if I use a phone card on my cell phone, will I still be charged the airtime for using my cell phone in the first place? That kind of defeats the purpose of the phone card. It costs $1.99 for a 1 minute call overseas, so I want to use a phone card on my cell phone that costs $0.30 a minute for all calls. So, will I end up only deducting $.030 from my phone card or will I have to pay $2.29 for both cell phone and phone card airtime?

THANKS!

You will still pay for all airtime, calling card or not. In fact, check and make sure your cell phone will work where you are going!!
